Russell is an International Mountain Guide who has been leading

expeditions to the Himalayas since 1974. He has led clients to

the summit of Everest, Cho Oyo, Shishapangma, Ama Dablam

and many other peaks.

 

Individually, he has the world record for the fastest single solo

ascent without oxygen of both Cho Oyo and of Ama Dablam.

In 1988 he was the first climber to cross the infamous Pinnacles

of the NE ridge of Everest. He is now widely reputed as one of the

most professional leaders of all guided expeditions to the Himalayas.

 

Russell is the owner operator of Himalayan Experience Ltd ,

a specialist guiding company that operates expeditions to several

summits over 8000m. He has a regular team of sherpas who are,

without doubt, the most respected in Nepal.

 

A New Zealand native, Russell was the first person to climb all of the 30 peaks over 3000m in New Zealand in one

summer season. He has also notched up 21 ascents of Mount Cook and 15 ascents of Mount Aspering. Based in the

Chamonix Valley since 1991 he can usually be found ski guiding during the winter months, alpine guiding during the

summer months, and on expedition during the Spring and Autumn. 

 

Russell is also the owner operator of Chamonix Experience Ltd, a guiding bureau based in Chamonix in the French

Alps, and the owner operator of Mountain Experience Ltd a trekking agency based in Kathmandu, Nepal.
